The radiation therapy unit at BVSC is the first and currently the only high energy external beam radiation therapy unit dedicated for animal use in the Southern Hemisphere. This amazingly powerful tool allows the specialists at BVSC to effectively treat many dogs and cats with otherwise incurable diseases. Dr Valerie Poirier, a registered Radiation Oncologist and Medical Oncologist is one of only a very small handful world-wide and runs the Radiation and Medical Oncology unit with the assistance of some of the most experienced staff available within Australia.
Surgical Oncology: Dr Rod Straw is an internationally recognised Surgical Oncologist and has exclusively been treating pets with cancer in Brisbane since 1995. Rod completed his intial training in the U.S.A and was working as an Associate Professor of Oncoloy at Colorado State University prior to his relocation to Brisbane.
At BVSC, Chemotherapy is administered in a purpose built room using the most advanced, safe administration system. We are able to run blood tests in house giving us results within minutes ensuring the fastest and safest chemotherapy administration.
