BVSC + Primary Chemotherapy Nurse

- BAppSci (Vet Tech), VTS (Onc)

Momoko is from a city called Nagoya in Japan and moved to Brisbane in 2006. She completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at the University of Queensland in 2011. During the study, she worked as a casual veterinary nurse assistant at a local veterinary surgery for 3 years in Brisbane. After graduation, she was very excited to commence work as a full time rotating nurse at BVSC in 2011. Momoko became BVSC's Primary Chemotherapy nurse in 2013. Momoko also volunteered at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital every Saturday for one year to gain knowledge about Australian wildlife animals. In addition, she worked for the BVECCS Emergency Centre fortnightly for six months while working at BVSC.

In June 2018, Momoko passed the exam to become a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Oncology accredited by the Academy of Internal Medicine Veterinary Technicians in the US. She is currently the first and the only VTS (Oncology) in Australia. Her daily goal is to give our patients the best attentions and care, and also to be the better communication bridge between owners and veterinarians to achieve a good quality of life in cancer patients. Her interest is not only limited to Oncology but also Internal Medicine and Anaesthesia.

Momoko is also BVSC’s Cat Advocate. A cat advocate ensures that all necessary Cat Friendly Clinic criteria are met, including implementation of Feline Friendly Handling and Nursing Care.

Momoko grew up with multiple cats and currently her family back home in Japan has six cats. She admits to be a crazy cat lady who also loves dogs. She adores her own cat called ‘Pumpkin’ and hopes to have a dog in the future.
